Tumaini had already anticipated that this would happen.
Tumaini, Akili and Kusudi had, quietly over the last few months, been hiring the best civil, electrical, and mechanical engineers and construction workers from around the world. They not only paid them double what they would make anywhere else but they were also offered all the assistance they needed to begin relocating their families to the valley outside the fort once the first areas of the city were finished.
Kusudi was in charge of collecting and using all the money they were accumulating through their trades which were becoming more and more accurate and successful as time went on.
For now, the team had already developed a plan for when Hatari decided to come after them. They realized that money alone, which they now had plenty of, would not be a long-lasting incentive to neutralize and turn Hatari's army around.
So, the engineering team had built a miniature model of the city they were going to eventually build. The scale of this model was big enough for visitors to be able to walk down the streets and explore every aspect of the new city up close. The parks, the plazas, the outdoor theaters, the houses, the buildings, and most importantly, the universities with their philosophy schools, medicine, physics and chemistry research labs, and engineering facilities. They could squat and play with doors, windows, park installations, they could also press buttons to hear concerts in open air theaters, movies playing, or get trains moving. They could also see the geothermal and solar and wind power plants working.
The thinking was that this would be the best way to explain the vision for the city albeit in miniature and to get families and people and children excited to be part of its creation.
So, as the soldiers were approaching the valley over the mountains, another stream of people were arriving simultaneously from the beaches below. Matsumaini and Kasari and their resistance network had managed to identify the families of each of the soldiers in Hatari's army and had invited them to come see the amazing miniature city and to spend a weekend at the beach relaxing and having fun with all the expenses paid.
So, the soldiers' spouses, children, grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles had decided to join the festivities with their families. The one thing they did not know was that they would also meet their soldier relatives.
The thinking was that once the soldiers saw their families in the valley below with their sunglasses, umbrellas, beach toys, and towels, their immediate aggression would be turned into puzzlement. The families would then greet the soldiers with a red rose in their hands and convince them put down their arms and to join them for a weekend of festivities visiting the miniature city exhibit and the beach quickly transforming their aggression into love.
Once the reunited families were together, Tumaini would then take the time to explain to all the purpose of the city and the plans to make it a reality. And more importantly, extend an invitation to those that wanted to relocate to the valley to become part of the initial founders and builders of Nyota, the first self sustaining and nurturing city in the universe.
Everybody invited to come to the city would have to go through a carefully designed vetting process to ensure their values, aspirations, and goals were in alignment with the overall objective - the building of a self-sustaining city that would set the world and humankind on an evolutionary path that was not destructive but accretive.
Eventually, 105 families, with 1050 members, were accepted to be part of the founding group. This group would be known as the Muamini for generations to come.
